Agenda

Discuss next steps for June 20 World Refugee Day

Due to the effects of policies put in place by the current administration, and fear in newcomer communities, the Welcoming & Belonging Committee is currently accessing how to best proceed regarding World Refugee Day (June 20). However, SRRC remains committed to fostering inclusion and belonging for all refugees and immigrants and hopes to reactivate the committee when conditions allow. To join the WRD Committee's next meeting, Friday April 11, 11:30am virtually, RSVP here

Key Functions

Primary Focus: World Refugee Day Event

One of the committee’s main initiatives is planning and coordinating an annual World Refugee Day event on or around June 20. This event celebrates the strength, resilience, and contributions of refugees in Sacramento County and beyond. The event typically includes cultural performances, storytelling, resource fairs, and community dialogues to foster greater understanding and appreciation for newcomer communities. This event is also a place for local elected officials to re-commit to welcoming newcomers to our region.

To be a part of the group and continue the discussion and planning, please contact Genevieve Levy.
